Conclusion

 Split-application of fertiliser including leaf-application of fertiliser in July had a positive effect on sugar
yields at low application rates (50 kg N/ha) and a negative effect at normal N-rates.
 Further trials with improved timing and optimal plant stand are necessary. Leaf-application of nitrogen is
again relevant due to reduced N2O-emission-risk, new fertiliser-types and development of application
technology (latest trials were performed around 30 years ago).
